This course focuses mainly on techniques to manage difficult extractions. Dr Koerner presents many pearls to simplify extractions not taught in dental school. Also covered are other procedures that require the same instruments, such as moderate third molar impactions, bone grafting extraction sites (three different methods), biopsy, apicos, and tori removal. Related topics include case selection, oral sedation, infection prevention and management, avoiding local anesthetic overdose, and the management of bleeding problems.
In the hands on educational experience, participants will be able to work on life-like dentoform models doing procedures previously reviewed y Dr. Koerner. Included are a “surgical” extraction; socket bone graft, partial bony impaction; dry socket prevention; lingual torus removal; apicoectomy and retrofil. These simulated surgeries allow a dentist to do these procedures under the direction of the instructor where he can emphasize proper technique and instrumentation for the most effective outcome. Participants will be asked to bring selected instruments from their own offices.
